Cheranne Cable describes the feeling of discovering an estate with a “solid community” and lots suitable for a large family home as a light bulb moment.
She and her partner Matt had been renting in Wandi thinking they would eventually build there.
However, following a long search across several suburbs, they failed to find suitable homesites above 350sqm at a fair price.
“We wanted a family home as we already have a 2-year-old and a dog so a standard, smaller block just wasn’t on the cards for us,” Cheranne explains.
“One day we went out on a limb looking for new displays and visited Wellard. The minute we drove past Oakebella I said to Matt: ‘That. There. That’s it. What is that place called?’”
A quick Google search revealed they had found LWP’s new boutique community, Oakebella.
“We were sold then and there!” Cheranne recalls.
“We turned around and got an information pack from the Sales Office and told our builder that Oakebella was where we wanted to be. In terms of amenities, land size and cost, Oakebella was a perfect for us.”
The pair purchased a 450sqm lot in Stage 2 in September 2017 and are building a generous 4x2 home, with theatre room, through Smart Homes for Living.
“Our house has lots of room at the rear for entertaining, with an alfresco centred to our living room, we can’t wait for Christmas at our place!” Cheranne said.
The couple was also impressed by Oakebella’s proximity to the freeway, beach and the fact it is close to trains, but not too close to hear them.
“We learnt that we could walk our son to the primary school that has just been completed and were thrilled we could get a decent sized block without having to sell our firstborn!,” Cheranne jokes.
Cheranne has been instrumental in establishing a residents’ group on Facebook to help community members share their build developments and questions, keep an eye out for one another and learn more about the area.
“We feel this little place will be something special,” she said.
“I really wanted to set up the residents’ page to get a head start on building a solid community and we can’t wait to feel connected to where we live!”
Cheranne adds that she and her family look forward to getting to know their neighbours, making new friends and discovering the local parks.
“One of the things that drew us to Oakebella was becoming part of a solid community,” she said. “A strong community was that ‘little something’ we felt was important when looking for a place to settle.
“I also adore the thought of being able to pick fruit and herbs in our own estate! That incentive really stood out to us.”
Located on the corner of Bertram Road and Tamblyn Place in Wellard, Oakebella is a small ‘urban retreat’ in Perth’s southern corridor.
The master-planned community is bordered by the protected, natural Bulrush Wetlands and will eventually be home to just 419 families.
Stage 2 homesites at Oakebella are sized from 315-515sqm and priced from $189,000 - $254,000.
